La toma de estos datos fue financiada por: Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, Bat Conservation International y la Fundación Chimbilako en el marco de un proyecto titulado "Saving a key caribbean pollinator: Leptonycteris curasoae". El trabajo de campo y de identificación taxonómica lo desarrolló la investigadora Diana Cardona entre los años 2013 y 2014 en varias localidades de enclaves secos del sector conocido como Cañón del Chicamocha, en Santander, Colombia. Estos registros incluyeron observaciones directas en cuevas, casas o minas abandonadas, grietas y en áreas abiertas naturales y seminaturales mediante el uso de redes de niebla.

Project Data

Dicho proyecto buscaba redescubrir a la especie Leptonycteris curasoae en el Cañón del Chicamocha, especie nectarívora, migratoria y en peligro de extinción (VU) cuyo rango de distribución va desde Aruba, Bonaire y Curazao, pasando por Venezuela y el norte de Colombia. Los enclaves secos de Santander son una de las localidades más al sur del continente donde ha sido registrada la especie.
