Se presenta una lista de los mamíferos (Synapsida: Theria), del departamento del Valle del Cauca y un recuento histórico de las expediciones y colecciones realizadas en el departamento. Este trabajo sólo incluye especies que están representadas en museos por especímenes de referencia, con excepción de algunos mamíferos marinos. Se registran para el Valle del Cauca un total de 212 especies agrupadas en 13 órdenes, 42 familias y 135 géneros. Igual que ocurre a nivel nacional los murciélagos son el orden más diverso (98 especies), seguido de los roedores (47 especies). Cuarenta y tres especies se encuentran en alguna categoría de amenaza tanto de la UICN como de la CVC, de las cuales 14 están incluidas dentro de las máximas categorías (S1, CR, EN, VU) y recomendamos realizar esfuerzos urgente... plus

Se presenta una lista de los mamíferos (Synapsida: Theria), del departamento del Valle del Cauca y un recuento histórico de las expediciones y colecciones realizadas en el departamento. Este trabajo sólo incluye especies que están representadas en museos por especímenes de referencia, con excepción de algunos mamíferos marinos. Se registran para el Valle del Cauca un total de 212 especies agrupadas en 13 órdenes, 42 familias y 135 géneros. Igual que ocurre a nivel nacional los murciélagos son el orden más diverso (98 especies), seguido de los roedores (47 especies). Cuarenta y tres especies se encuentran en alguna categoría de amenaza tanto de la UICN como de la CVC, de las cuales 14 están incluidas dentro de las máximas categorías (S1, CR, EN, VU) y recomendamos realizar esfuerzos urgentes para promover su conservación. Por último, con base en la distribución de las localidades de colecta, se analiza la distribución geográfica en las vertientes cordilleranas y las planicies del departamento. Un total de 64 especies tienen una distribución que incluye la totalidad del departamento (CC, COVOC, COVOR, VG, PAC), al tiempo que 56 especies están restringidas a una sola unidad.

Méthodes d'échantillonnage

Para la elaboración de la presente lista de especies se revisaron los ejemplares de referencia y las bases de datos de los siguientes museos: (CVC-Alberico, 2001), Colección de Mamíferos, Universidad del Valle (UV) (Cali), Instituto de Ciencias Naturales, Universidad Nacional de Colombia (ICN) (Bogotá), Museo Americano de Historia Natural, (AMNH) (Nueva York), Museo Nacional de Historia Natural, (NMNH) (Instituto Smithsoniano, Washington, D.C.) Museo Field de Historia Natural (FMNH) (Chicago) y el Museo Británico de Historia Natural (Londres) (BMNH). Para su inclusión en la lista, solo se consideraron las especies que están representadas en museos como especímenes, excepción hecha de los mamíferos marinos donde se consideró además la información proveniente de expertos que tuvieran coordenadas exactas de los avistamientos en territorio departamental.

Description des étapes de la méthode:

  1. Como un esfuerzo complementario con base en especímenes de museo, hicimos una búsqueda minuciosa en diferentes publicaciones para identificar localidades de colección en el departamento, principalmente aquellas que aparecen referidas en la serie del Boletín del Museo Americano de Historia Natural, producto de las expediciones realizadas en Colombia entre 1910-1915. También se revisó una serie de libros que contienen información importante sobre la distribución de las especies de mamíferos: Borrero (1967), Carter y Dolan (1978), Corbet y Hill (1991), Dobson (1878), Eisenberg (1989), Emmons y Feer (1990, 1997), Hershkovitz (1977), Miller (1907), Montgomery (1985), Nowak (1999), Patterson y Timm (1987), Pine (1972), Redford y Eisenberg (1989), Wilson y Reeder (2005). De especial utilidad ha sido la información sobre distribución contenida en las siguientes listas de especies de mamíferos colombianos: Allen (1912, 1916), Cuervo et al. (1986), Rodríguez-Mahecha et al. (1995), Alberico (1982, 1983), Alberico et al. (2000).
  2. ESTRUCTURACIÓN DE LOS CONJUNTOS DE DATOS Una vez el artículo fue publicado por la revista, la Infraestructura Institucional de Datos del Instituto Humboldt (I2D) procedió a realizar la debida estructuración de los conjuntos de datos adoptando el estándar Darwin Core (DwC) con algunas adaptaciones institucionales que no afectan la naturaleza del estándar, para lo cual, se realizó un mapeo de los elementos utilizados en el conjunto de datos y posteriormente se realizó la validación de la información en cuanto a la estructura, donde se eliminaron casos de duplicidad, se corrigieron errores ortográficos y se documentó la taxonomía de las especies teniendo en cuenta el Catalogo de la vida 2014 (http://www.catalogueoflife.org)
